In 2021, 3.8 billion people use a smart phone.  These are fantastic resource with information at our fingertips, but this also can cause many issues.  This is especially the case for young people.

 

The parental controls on smartphones allow you to block content or restrict apps, features, content and downloads or purchases that might not be suitable for young people.  Setting limitations around age ratings and web searches allows you to filter out age-inappropriate content and reduce the likelihood of your child being exposed to potentially harmful and upsetting material.  We would highly encourage parents/carers to setup these restrictions.

 

In addition, The Oaks Academy has seen an increased number of incidents where students are demonstrating harmful sexualised behaviour though their communications with people on the internet.  We would actively encourage you as a parent or carer to support your child in the appropriate use of their smart phone when not in the academy building.  The Oaks has a strict no mobile phone policy, and we believe by working together we can reduce this harmful behaviour.
