Academy Updates

Face Masks

In line with Step 3 of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, face coverings will no longer be recommended for students in classrooms or communal areas.
Face coverings will also no longer be recommended for staff in classrooms.
In all schools we continue to recommend that face coverings should be worn by staff and visitors in situations outside of classrooms where social distancing is not possible (for example, when moving around in corridors and communal areas).

Lateral Flow Testing Information

Lateral Flow Testing

Students will receive a further supply of home testing kits during next week (17th – 21st May).  Students need to continue to test twice per week and all results must be communicated to NHS through track and trace.  Any positive results must be communicated to The Oaks Academy without delay.

Please visit our Lateral Flow Testing page for further information www.theoaksacademy.co.uk/lateral-flow-testing/

Is there a sticker under your tray?

Every Thursday in May, the school catering team (Mellors), will be placing a sticker under one tray in the canteen.  If you are the student with the sticker you will receive your lunch for free!

To find out more about lunches served in the canteen please click here.

Big Ask Survey

Last month the Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, launched The Big Ask – the largest ever survey of children in England. It asks all children about their priorities and concerns for the future, so that we can put children at the heart of the national recovery post-COVID-19.

If your child would like to have their say please click here.  The deadline for responses is Friday 28th May.

Online Safety

In 2021, 3.8 billion people use a smart phone.  These are fantastic resource with information at our fingertips, but this also can cause many issues.  This is especially the case for young people.
The parental controls on smartphones allow you to block content or restrict apps, features, content and downloads or purchases that might not be suitable for young people.  Setting limitations around age ratings and web searches allows you to filter out age-inappropriate content and reduce the likelihood of your child being exposed to potentially harmful and upsetting material.  We would highly encourage parents/carers to setup these restrictions.
In addition, The Oaks Academy has seen an increased number of incidents where students are demonstrating harmful sexualised behaviour though their communications with people on the internet.  We would actively encourage you as a parent or carer to support your child in the appropriate use of their smart phone when not in the academy building.  The Oaks has a strict no mobile phone policy, and we believe by working together we can reduce this harmful behaviour.

To support this, The Oaks Academy has arranged for assemblies to be delivered by external agencies over the coming weeks to encourage safe use of smart phones and the internet.

More information about how you can keep your child safe online can be found in the Safeguarding Centre.  Please visit http://www.theoaksacademy.co.uk/safeguarding-centre/#parent-guidance-and-resources

Year 11 Leavers Week 7th – 11th June

Sadly our Year 11 students will soon be leaving The Oaks Academy to begin their next adventure!  Their last day in school will be Friday 28 May 2021.
Year 11 will return on Monday 7 June and spend their last week with us and the NCS (National Citizenship Service) who have kindly offered to fund the whole week of events for them in lieu of them not having a Prom and having been so resilient during lockdown.  The week has been timetabled into different sessions including climbing wall, bushcraft skills, first aid certificates, dragon’s den.
On Tuesday 8 June, Gainsborough Primary School, next door to us, will be bringing their full cohort of 60 year 5 students to spend the day with our Year 11s and will also participate in the same events alongside them for our Year 11s to develop their leadership skills.
The last day with us on Friday 11 June has been designated Year 11 Leavers’ Celebration and they will have a leaving ceremony in the afternoon outside on the field.
We are looking forward to great weather and a fantastic end to our Year 11s time with us.

This really is an amazing opportunity for our students.  A big thank you to NCS for their very generous offer to fund all the event.  We have managed to secure the most places within Cheshire East!  Go Oaks! Well done Mrs Lockett!
