Pat, a qualified teacher, spent over 30 years in Further Education following 5 years in Retail Management. During her time as Principal of St Helens College, Merseyside, she was a school governor, a Director of the Connexions Service, a Director of St Helens Chamber and lead sponsor and Chair of Governors of The Sutton Academy and other regional organisations including The Prince’s Trust in Merseyside. A number of regional and national roles, including a year as the elected President of The Association of Colleges, were recognised when Pat was awarded a DBE & made a Dame for services to local & National education in the 2011 New Year’s Honours list. In the same year she was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from Edge Hill University.
In November 2014 Pat was also honoured by The University of Chester with an Honorary Doctor of Letters, recognising her achievements in the world of further Education.
Since retirement Pat has become Chair of the AoC Beacon Awards Committee & a trustee of the AoC Charity as well as a Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chair of an NHS Foundation Hospital Trust in her home town of Crewe. In 2015 Pat became Chair of governors of South Cheshire College, a Director of The Crewe Multi Academy Trust, a member of The Interim Executive Board for Oakfield Lodge School and a member of the Employer Skills Board for the Cheshire Local Enterprise Partnership representing the health sector.
