Drama KS3

 INTRODUCTION

Drama enables you to develop your confidence, interpersonal, communication and performance skills, whilst also helping advance your theoretical understanding of the Dramatic arts. You will explore a range of different styles, traditions and genres of theatre. Practical projects encourage you to focus on your skill development, as well as developing your creativity and ability to collaborate with others. 

WHAT TOPICS WILL I STUDY DURING THE COURSE?

In KS3 Drama you will study a variety of projects including: Script work, Character Development, Improvisation, Devising, Issue Based Drama, Performance skills and Theatre roles. Each project will include new theoretical knowledge, at least one evaluation activity and also either a scripted performance or a devised performance. Each project builds on the knowledge and skill level required in the previous project to ensure you are appropriately challenged and make progress.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I USE AND DEVELOP?

You will develop your performance skills, devising ability, evaluation skills and theoretical understanding of Drama. You will develop technique and skill on the stage, using physical and vocal skills and you will gain confidence in your performance skills by working on solo performances (monologues) and group performances; in a range of dramatic genre/styles.  You will also learn how to create original pieces of Drama based on a given stimulus in a range of dramatic styles.

WHAT EXAMINATIONS WILL I TAKE?

KS3 Drama is designed to prepare you for the AQA GCSE Drama course.

HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED?

From Year 7 your work will be assessed using the GCSE specification and you will be given regular feedback to help you improve. You will be assessed on your ability to create and develop ideas to communicate meaning for theatrical performance (AO1), your ability to apply theatrical skills to realise artistic intentions in live performance (AO2), your ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how drama and theatre is developed and performed(AO3), and your ability to analyse and evaluate their own work (AO4).

HOW WILL THE COURSE HELP ME WITH MY FUTURE CAREER?

In addition to your Drama development, KS3 Drama helps you to develop a range of transferable skills. It shows that you have outstanding interpersonal, communication, confidence, team work, resilience and leadership skills. It will also help develop your independent learning and creative skills.
